SOMNIUM SCIPIONIS. THE VISION OF SCIPIO CICERO, who was almost the most celebrated orator of antiquity, was born B.C. 107, and was educated by Crassus. H e served as a Roman warrior under Sylla, and subsequently became a philosopher. After many years he entered political life, becoming Quaestor of Sicily, then Edile, and finally Consul. At the last he retired to Tusculum, and was assassinated B.C. 43. H e left many classical works, among which are the beautiful essays on " Friendship " and on " Old Age."
