For webmasters
Everything here is free to use on another site: 2,756 volumes, 496,912 pages, every one of them public domain or freely licensed. This page shows the four ways to use them, from a link to the raw data. There is no key, no account and no limit beyond good manners; the one thing asked is a line saying where the text came from.
1. Link to a page
Every volume and every page has a permanent address. The number is the volume's id, which every address at the library ends in.
- https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/#/b/182
- the volume (The Book of Enoch, Charles's translation)
- https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/#/b/182/p/12
- page 12 of it
- https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/book/182-the-book-of-enoch/
- the same volume's plain page for crawlers and no-script visitors
Browse by subject at /browse/ to find a volume, or search from the home page. A page address survives rebuilds; a volume withdrawn on rights grounds answers 404 within an hour, and nothing else ever moves.
2. Embed a volume
A small reader for one volume, made for a frame: the page's text or image, previous and next, the licence notice where a volume carries one, and a link to the full reader. Put the script once on a page, then a div wherever a volume should appear; each becomes a frame sized to its content.
<script src="https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/embed/embed.js" async></script> <div data-aml-book="182" data-aml-page="12"></div>
Or write the frame yourself and set its height: <iframe src="https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/embed/#/b/182/p/12" style="width:100%;height:600px;border:0"></iframe>. The frame loads nothing but the library's own files and records nothing about your visitors.
3. The data
The library is static JSON, served with Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *, so a page on any site can fetch it directly. These are the files the reader itself uses; they change only when the library is rebuilt.
| file | what it holds |
|---|---|
/data/library.json | the catalogue: books[] with id, t title, a author, s subject, p pages, img page images; stats; shards, the search shard names; common, words the index stops |
/data/books/ID/meta.json | one volume: title, author, subject, pages, chunkSize, chunks, images as [page, ext, w, h], source, and rights on a licensed volume |
/data/books/ID/cN.json | pages chunkSize at a time: pages[] of {n, t}. Page p is in chunk floor((p − 1) / chunkSize). Line breaks are the printed page's own. |
/data/books/ID/pages/pNNNN.ext | the page image, where meta.images lists one (four-digit page number) |
/data/search/SHARD.json | the full-text index, sharded by a word's first two letters: word → "bookIndex:page,page|bookIndex:page", where bookIndex is the position in library.json's books |
/data/quality.json | how well each transcription reads, with the scale (see any rough scan's book page) |
/data/witnesses.json | texts held more than once, and which volumes are which |
/scripture/data/, /verses/data/, /suras/data/, /glossary/data/ | the parallel Bibles by book, every scripture citation in the library, the Qur'an citations, and the glossary's terms and entries; each section's page says how its files are shaped |
// page 12 of volume 182, in a browser on any site
const meta = await (await fetch('https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/data/books/182/meta.json')).json();
const chunk = await (await fetch('https://ascendedmasterslibrary.org/data/books/182/c' + Math.floor(11 / meta.chunkSize) + '.json')).json();
const page = chunk.pages.find(p => p.n === 12).t;
A whole volume as one text file is the "Download as text" button on its page in the reader; the mirror of the entire library as a dataset is described on the rights page.
4. WordPress
A plugin with three shortcodes and a block. It fetches the two small files above, caches each for an hour, and prints the page with its source line. No settings, no keys.
Download the plugin (v1.0.0, 17 KB)
- [aml_page id="182" page="12"]
- the text of a page, on your site
- [aml_book id="182" page="1" height="640"]
- the reader in a frame
- [aml_link id="182" page="12"]Enoch on the Watchers[/aml_link]
- a link
Install it from Plugins → Add New → Upload, activate, and use a shortcode or the "Library volume" block in the Embeds group. The source is plain PHP and a plain script in the zip; read it before you install it, as you should with any plugin.
Terms
- Free. The texts are public domain, and the library adds no claim of its own to them. Use them, quote them, reprint them.
- Say where it came from. A line like From the Ascended Masters Library, with a link to the page, is asked for and is what the plugin and the frame print.
- Licensed volumes. A few volumes are in copyright and released by their authors for free distribution on terms that must travel with the text. Their
meta.jsoncarriesrights, and the frame and the plugin print it; if you reprint such a text yourself, keep the notice with it. - The hour. A volume withdrawn on rights grounds disappears from the library within an hour. Cache its files for no longer than that, as the plugin does, so a withdrawal reaches your site too.
- Some countries only. A very few volumes are public domain in the United States but still in copyright elsewhere; the rights page lists them by name. Outside the countries where such a volume is public domain its data and pages answer
451with a JSON body carrying the notice; the frame and the plugin show that notice. If you reprint such a text yourself, the same limits apply to you. - Nothing recorded. The library keeps no logs of readers and sets no cookies; the frame and the plugin add none. Please keep it that way on your side of the embed.
